Sepsis susceptibility GWAS

We at the Gemini Center for Sepsis Research are excited to lead a consortium on the genetic risk of sepsis susceptibility. This is a multi-national team effort with our collaborators at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, University of Tartu, the Arctic University of Norway, and Copenhagen University Hospital, with more collaborators to come. As of October 2020, we use data from the HUNT Study, UK Biobank, Estonian Biobank, FinnGen, the Tromsø Study, the Copenhagen General Population Study, and the Copenhagen City Heart Study, totaling more than 850,000 genotyped subjects of European ancestry with tens of thousands of sepsis cases.

In addition to genome-wide association studies (GWAS), we will carry out a range of downstream analyses, including Mendelian randomization analyses to assess the unconfounded effect of relevant risk factors on sepsis risk.

Our goal is to identify novel biological pathways of sepsis and potential therapeutic targets, describe subgroups at an increased genetic and environmental risk of developing sepsis, and construct prediction tools for sepsis.

For further inquiries or proposal for collaboration, please contact Erik Solligård.
